THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND, initially named the Irish Free State, was established in 1922. Ireland declared itself a republic in 1949.


Big cities: Dublin (the capital), Cork, Limerick, Gateway etc.
Climate: temperate oceanic climate
Population: 4,234,925 (2006 Census)


Parliamentary democracy and a constitutional republic
Currency: In 1999 Ireland launched the Euro (ESC - European Single Currency)
Language: English and Irish (official languages) and Polish (widely spoken)


There was a young lady of Niger,
Who went for a ride on the back of a tiger.
They came back from the ride,
With the lady inside
And a smile on the face of the tiger.
