A village called ... Earth (1)

Supposing you shrink the Earth’s population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the present human ratios remaining the same, it looks something like this:

57 Asians                                    52 females                        70 non-Christians           70 non-white
11 Europeans                              48 males                           30 Christians                  30 white
14 from the Western Hemisphere
8 Africans

89 heterosexual                                                                 6 possess 59% of the entire World’s wealth
11 homosexual                                                                                       80 live in substandard housing
                                                                                                70 are unable to read
                                                                                    50 suffer from malnutrition
                                                                                      1 is near death
                                                                                      1 is near birth
                                                                                      1 has college education
                                                                                      1 owns a computer
When one considers our world from such a perspective the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent. The following is also something to ponder:
…if you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than a million who will not survive this week.
…if you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million in the world.
…if you have food in the refrigerator, clothes to wear, a roof overhead, and a place to sleep, you a richer than 75% of this world.
…if you have money in your wallet, and spare change in a dish somewhere, you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.

If you can read this message you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.

You don’t know exactly what happened in the past. You don’t know what is going to happen in the future. Ironically, you don’t even know what is happening 100 metres away from where you are right now. What are other people doing? Where are they? What are they experiencing? You don’t know. There are so many things you don’t know, many questions you cannot answer.

What are the things you do  know, though? The questions you can answer. The things that you have experienced, the things you experience. What is happening in your reality? How does the world look like when seen with your eyes?

One of the things we all have in common is that we all exist at the same time.
Some create, some dream, some give, some gain. Some are afraid.
Teachers have the antidote to fear – knowledge.
